Seknd Smart Skincare
Seknd is an early-stage startup by 2 female co-founders who left Google to pursue the development of this smart skincare discovery platform. Using machine learning, the site intakes user input for what they are looking for in skincare products to generate product recommendations that are best for each person's unique skin.
During my time with Seknd, they were able to secure angel investors and won the L'Oréal's Women in Digital Award for their innovations at the intersection of beauty and tech. As their first intern, I was able to contribute to important foundational features of their product, including the development of the user search flow process and excavating key user testing insights. I also contributed to social media content planning and the college ambassador program.

Timeline
September – December 2019

The two areas I was able to make the most impact on during my internship was in product design and user research capacities.
Sketch, Figma
Product Design
1. User Search Flow
Collaborating directly with the founders, I redesigned the user search flow by drafting wireframes on Sketch that utilized user input about their own skin to generate personalized product offerings. I created an outwardly simple and sleek filter design that contained a high volume of rich selection options in a "skin quiz" format to help build out user profiles.
2. Community Platform ("Seknd Circles")
Kicked off initial ideation for the community page by creating Sketch wireframes focusing on increasing engagement through user generated content. This includes discussion areas where users can create posts, ask questions, and interact with others on all things skincare. I also created highlight categories featuring popular posts, a "today at a glance" section, and easy product voting to crowdsource for fan favorite products.
3. Landing Page
Revisited landing page design and created high-fidelity mockups on Sketch as part of the brand refresh pre-beta launch.
User Research
1. Home Page Design A/B Testing
Helped identify most visually engaging home page designs for further user interaction.
2. "Seknd" Brand Name & Wordmark User Testing
Word Association, Pronunciation, Stickiness, Visual Interest.
2. Product Search User Testing
Walk through of 3 main product search mockups on Figma with female college students (age 18-22, product target demographic) to determine 3 main goals:
1. Which product search flow do users find the most helpful.
2. Which content features are most helpful and any suggestions towards what features may be missing.
3. Which UX experience is most fitting for the purposes of a product search flow.
Key Insight: Helped identify which features should be prioritized or added, as well as determined friction points that needed editing for clarity to reduce confusion.
